Overcome with jealousy, Donna Anna was said to have been furious. Shortly after, Mercedes mysteriously disappeared, with rumors suggesting Donna Anna had her locked away in a convent. Gaetano searched for her tirelessly but died in battle, never finding her again. Legend claims that the ghosts of Donna Anna, Mercedes, and Gaetano are trapped in the palace, forever re-enacting their tragic love triangle.
